Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina has fiercely rejected Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi’s shocking proposal to impose toll fees on major public roads. In a fiery post on his X account, Ledama warned that any attempt to charge Kenyans for using existing roads would spark intense resistance.
“If you want toll charges, build new roads! But if you dare tax existing ones, we will fight back!” he declared.
Meanwhile, CS Mbadi defended the controversial plan, insisting that Kenyans must pay for the services they use. He argued that toll charges should be structured based on road usage—those who drive more should pay more.

“We already have the Road Maintenance Levy, but tolling will ensure fairness. It should not burden citizens unnecessarily,” Mbadi explained.
The Treasury boss also pushed for toll roads as a way to reduce congestion, particularly during holiday travel, suggesting that people should have the option to pay for faster routes.
“I’d rather spend Ksh400 to get home in four hours and enjoy fresh fish by the lake than sit in traffic for an entire day,” Mbadi stated.
As the debate intensifies, Kenyans are left wondering—will the government push forward with this controversial toll plan, or will resistance force a rethink?
