Ministry of Health Confirms: 59 Suspected Ebola Cases in Kenya Test Negative

In a significant update aimed at calming national anxiety, the Ministry of Health has officially confirmed that all 59 individuals recently flagged as suspected Ebola cases across the country have tested negative for the virus. The announcement follows days of heightened vigilance as the government accelerates its preparedness efforts in response to the ongoing Bundibugyo Ebola outbreak in neighboring regions.

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, while briefing Parliament on Wednesday, confirmed that the ministry has investigated 22 separate Ebola alerts reported in different parts of the country, with additional screenings pushing the total number of individuals tested to 59. “I want to assure the nation that Kenya remains free of any confirmed Ebola Virus Disease case,” CS Duale stated during the session chaired by Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.

The ministry has activated the National Ebola Incident Management System, a centralized framework designed to coordinate rapid surveillance and emergency response. According to official reports, more than 71,000 travelers have undergone rigorous health screenings at various international airports and land border crossings since the alert was issued.

To bolster national readiness, the government has designated specific isolation and treatment facilities, including specialized units at Kenyatta National Hospital and the National Police Service Hospital. Furthermore, a reserve team of over 241 medical experts—comprising epidemiologists, laboratory scientists, and emergency responders—has been placed on high alert for immediate deployment if necessary.

Despite these measures, the Ministry continues to urge the public to remain vigilant. With over 1,000 healthcare workers having undergone specialized training, the government emphasizes that early detection remains the most effective defense. Citizens are advised to rely strictly on official communication from the Ministry of Health and to report any suspected symptoms immediately to the nearest medical facility.
