Tensions have reached a boiling point in Nyandarua County as police have launched an urgent, high-stakes manhunt for a former Member of County Assembly (MCA) linked to a wave of violent disturbances that rocked Ol Kalou town overnight. The incident, which saw property destroyed and public order shattered, has left the local community in a state of alarm.
According to preliminary reports, the violence erupted late Wednesday evening when a group of rowdy individuals, allegedly mobilized by the former legislator, stormed local businesses and disrupted public services in the town center. The chaos, which stretched into the early hours of Thursday morning, resulted in significant property damage and left several residents nursing injuries after running battles with security teams.
Confirming the operation, a senior regional police commander stated that they are tracking the former official, who is believed to have been the key instigator behind the overnight unrest. “We have received credible intelligence linking the former MCA to the mobilization of youth to cause mayhem. We are closing in on them, and they will face the full force of the law for the destruction caused,” the official stated.
The motive behind the late-night destruction remains a subject of intense investigation, though local sources suggest the violence may be tied to escalating political rivalry within the region. Businesses in Ol Kalou remained shuttered for several hours on Thursday morning as residents expressed frustration over the recurring use of youth as political pawns to settle scores.
Security has been significantly bolstered across the town, with anti-riot police deployed to key junctions to deter further escalations. As the manhunt continues, authorities are appealing to members of the public to provide any information that could lead to the arrest of the former MCA and his accomplices.
