Wetang’ula Slams Critics of Ruto-Raila Political Alliance, Calls for National Unity
On the night of March 13, 2025, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula voiced strong disapproval of politicians opposing the newly established partnership between President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and Raila Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
Speaking during the first-ever Parliament Iftar dinner held at the Parliament Buildings to mark Ramadan, Wetang’ula dismissed critics of the alliance, stating they fail to recognize the benefits it brings to Kenyans.
“I condemn those attacking ODM leader Raila Odinga for choosing to work with President Ruto. His decision is a demonstration of statesmanship, and instead of rejecting it, we should all support it,” Wetang’ula stated.

Addressing opposition leaders who remain skeptical about the arrangement, he urged all politicians to rally behind the national unity agenda spearheaded by Ruto and Raila. He stressed that fostering unity across political lines is essential for national stability and economic growth.
“The partnership between President Ruto and former Prime Minister Odinga is designed to benefit the country. If we truly care about Kenya’s future, we must support their efforts to maintain peace and prosperity,” he added.
Although Wetang’ula did not attend the official signing of the pact at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), he has publicly endorsed the deal. Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi was also absent from the event but later clarified that he was engaged in assignments from the president.
Following Raila’s entry into the ruling coalition, the shake-up in Parliament saw ODM members secure key committee positions, while allies of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua were removed from influential roles.
