Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has officially endorsed Fred Matiang’i, the former Interior Cabinet Secretary, as the Jubilee Party’s presidential candidate for the upcoming 2027 elections.
At a senior Jubilee meeting on February 5th, Uhuru expressed his support for Matiang’i to run against President William Ruto.
Sources reveal that Uhuru encouraged Matiang’i to start gathering support and to build alliances with other opposition figures.
Notable attendees at the meeting included former ICT Cabinet Secretary Joseph Mucheru, ex-PS Karanja Kibicho, and Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka.

Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni defended Matiang’i, highlighting his experience and leadership abilities.
Kioni pointed out Matiang’i’s close collaboration with Uhuru during his final term, portraying him as the best candidate to lead the nation.
“When William chose to campaign, Fred Matiang’i was the one left to assist Uhuru,” Kioni remarked.
He noted that Matiang’i is familiar with essential national projects like HELB and CBC reforms.
Kioni emphasized that Matiang’i’s understanding of stalled projects and government initiatives positions him as the ideal leader to guide the country in a new direction from the outset.
