Tragic Naivasha Collision Claims Lives Amid Rising Holiday Road Accidents

A tragic accident involving a head-on collision between an Eldoret Shuttle matatu and a public service bus occurred near the Prison Bridge in Naivasha.

Eyewitnesses stated the bus was en route to Nairobi while the matatu was heading in the opposite direction. Authorities urge motorists to exercise caution and avoid speeding, especially as many return to the city ahead of school reopening.

Several passengers were injured and transported to Naivasha Level 4 Hospital for treatment. The deceased were taken to the mortuary, awaiting postmortem examinations by government pathologists.

This incident follows a collision the previous day near Nyakairo, Kinungi, on the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway, which left five injured.

The uptick in road accidents coincides with increased traffic during the holiday season. On January 3, another devastating crash on the Eldoret-Kitale Highway in Soy claimed ten lives and injured many others when a Great Rift Shuttle matatu collided with a lorry.

According to NTSA data, 4,282 road fatalities were recorded from January to November last year, including 1,637 pedestrians, 1,045 motorcyclists, 788 passengers, and 369 drivers.
