Tragic Morning Chaos: Nakuru-Nairobi Highway Shut Down After Deadly Trailer-Truck Collision

Transport Snarl-Up as Nakuru-Nairobi Highway Sees Early Morning Crash

Traffic came to a standstill early Saturday along the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway near the Delamere Shop following a collision between a trailer and a truck.

The accident reportedly happened around 7:00 a.m. when a truck heading towards Nakuru lost control and collided with an oncoming trailer.

Images circulating online showed the trailer with a shattered windscreen and broken side mirrors, while the truck sustained severe side damage, including deflated tires.

Rescuers, believed to be local residents, were seen attempting to free individuals trapped under the wreckage, while onlookers gathered at a safe distance.

Both sides of the highway were closed temporarily to facilitate the removal of the wreckage, forcing motorists to seek alternative routes. Despite police intervention, traffic disruptions persisted for hours before order was restored.

The number of casualties or fatalities remains unconfirmed as rescue operations continue.

This section of the highway, particularly the Nakuru-Naivasha stretch, is notorious for frequent accidents, as highlighted by data from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).

Just two weeks earlier, on January 13, five people were critically injured when a matatu lost control and collided with a truck along the Nakuru-Naivasha highway at Rironi in Naivasha.

St John Ambulance responders, who were on the scene during the January incident, confirmed that casualties were stabilized before being evacuated to the hospital.

This latest accident adds to the growing list of road crashes recorded since the start of the year, despite ongoing efforts by NTSA and traffic police to enhance safety on major highways.
