Raila’s Deal with Ruto Sparks Betrayal Uproar – ODM Fires Back!

ODM Chairperson Gladys Wanga has dismissed allegations that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga betrayed the public by entering into an agreement with President William Ruto.
Addressing attendees at the International Women’s Day event in Homa Bay County on Saturday, March 8, Wanga clarified that the deal between the two leaders was purely aimed at fostering national unity.
She refuted claims that Raila aligned himself with Ruto for personal benefits, stressing that the inclusive coalition was formed with the interests of all Kenyans in mind.
According to Wanga, the collaboration between Raila and Ruto is expected to tackle pressing national issues such as youth unemployment while promoting inclusivity.
“Raila led us in committing to a broad-based government, not for selfish reasons but to enhance national cohesion,” she affirmed.
She further expressed support for the unity efforts of both leaders, questioning why such an initiative would be labeled as betrayal.

Wanga’s statements came in response to criticism from Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who denounced the agreement as a major act of disloyalty to the Kenyan people.
Speaking at the People’s Dialogue Festival in Nairobi on Friday, March 7, Kalonzo urged citizens, especially the youth, to reject the new political arrangement, arguing that it primarily served the interests of a few individuals.
Despite the deal, Kalonzo insisted that Raila’s backing would not necessarily secure Ruto’s re-election in 2027.
“If the discussions at KICC do not include compensating families affected by police brutality, then anything coming from there is a betrayal,” he remarked.
DAP-Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa echoed Kalonzo’s sentiments, accusing Raila of abandoning his role in the opposition and aligning with the government, warning that history would judge him harshly.
“Those who have crossed over to Ruto’s administration will be remembered unfavorably. We stand with the youth and remain firm in our position,” Wamalwa declared.
