Kalonzo Calls Ruto-Uhuru Meeting a ‘Survival Tactic’

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka now asserts that the meeting between President William Ruto and his predecessor was not intended to create an inclusive government

According to Kalonzo, Ruto’s actions reflect the behavior of someone trying to maintain political viability.

He further stated that the President swiftly appointed allies of the former President following their meeting, similar to his previous actions with allies of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.

“I want Kenyans to understand this is not inclusive. This is someone attempting to ensure political survival by having a photo opportunity with Uhuru Kenyatta and subsequently making rapid appointments, as occurred with ODM,” Kalonzo commented on KTN.

However, he pointed out that despite these appointments, nothing changes.

Kalonzo maintained that a revolution is currently in progress and it will only conclude with the 2027 general elections.

He emphasized that this is precisely why an Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) must be established.

“For me, nothing has changed; the revolution continues, and its peak will be during the next elections, thus the necessity of having the IEBC operational,” Kalonzo mentioned.

“The absence of an IEBC Commissioner has hindered the functioning of the electoral body. Although there is a secretariat, by-elections cannot proceed unless the Commission is established. ”

Kalonzo’s comments come a few weeks after Ruto and Uhuru convened at the former President’s home in Ichaweri, Gatundu.

The meeting took many Kenyans by surprise as it was not anticipated.

State House indicated that the two leaders discussed issues of national and regional significance and emphasized the need to foster a nationalistic, patriotic, and cooperative relationship among all Kenyans and stakeholders.

A few days following the meeting, President Ruto appointed several of Uhuru’s significant allies to his Cabinet while others were assigned to important state bodies.

Those nominated to the cabinet include Mutahi Kagwe (Agriculture and Livestock Development), William Kabogo (Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy), and Lee Kinyanjui (Investments, Trade, and Industry).

They are scheduled for vetting on January 14, 2025.
