In a dramatic and strategic leadership change, the Jubilee Party has appointed former Narok North MP Richard Moitalel Ole Kenta as its new Secretary General, and the 2027 general elections in the party’s direction will be significantly reshaped with the change of Jeremiah Kioni in a move.
This confirmation was made by the party officials after a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting chaired by Uhuru Kenyatta, the former president and the party leader, on Thursday, January 22.
The NEC’s decision expresses a distinct reevaluation of the Jubilee’s leadership structure as the party attempts to revive its political influence and diversify its support base after a long period of internal conflicts and loss of national prominence.
Ole Kenta, a skilled politician with parliamentary experience since 2013, is taking one of the most powerful positions within Jubilee at a time when internal unity and strategic vision are essential for its future direction.
Jubilee, in its official communication, requested all members, supporters, and allied collaborators to provide full cooperation and support to Hon. Kenta while he carries his enlarged responsibilities. The party stated that the new leadership was the result of a unanimous decision of the NEC as part of a wider organizational rearrangement aimed at boosting Jubilee’s institutional strength and electoral preparedness.
Kioni, on the other hand, was given the title of Deputy Party Leader, thus putting him alongside former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, who was appointed to the same position late last year and is widely considered Jubilee’s presidential nominee for the 2027 elections. This configuration of leadership can be seen as an attempt to balance the factor of measuring continuity against that of a new strategic direction.
A legal advisor and a ruler’s witness are the two main attributes that Ole Kenta brings to the table. This is due to the fact that he had already been in very prominent positions—it was the government and parliament—that he took the secretary general’s vacancy in the first place.
At a point in time, he would be a decisive factor in the party’s operational preferences, such as the nurturing of local support, the restructuring of the party, and the cutting of deals with other parties in the midst of tough political conditions in the whole of Kenya.
