Gachagua Reveals How He Pressured Ruto to Admit Abductions

Speaking to reporters in Kakamega County, Gachagua suggested that Ruto only recognized the abductions (widely perceived as state-sponsored) after Gachagua’s critical disclosure, which he believed revealed an unidentified building in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) where the abductees were allegedly detained.

Gachagua mentioned that it was only after he revealed the existence of a building exceeding 21 floors and identified an individual named Abel, who is connected to a highly influential government figure, as central to the abduction crisis in Kenya, that Ruto addressed the issue.

“I suspect, though I am unsure, that the President’s decision to acknowledge the abductions and his commitment to halt them may be influenced by my statements, as we are approaching the truth,” Gachagua expressed.

The former Deputy President added that prior to his disclosure on December 28, wherein he alleged a covert police unit led by Abel was responsible for the forced disappearances of Kenyans, Ruto had consistently claimed that no abductions were occurring in the nation.

“They claimed there were no abductions. The President (Ruto) declared more than five times that no abductions were taking place. He appears to have reconsidered, stating that he will put an end to the abductions,” he remarked.

Ruto communicated the government’s pledge to eradicate abductions during his speech at the Homa Bay Governor’s Cup in Homa Bay on December 27, which was attended by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

“As a government, we will fulfill our responsibilities, and abductions will cease in the country so that the youth can live peacefully and develop into individuals of integrity and respect to advance the nation,” Ruto affirmed.

Gachagua seemingly suggested that the reversal indicated the misleading nature of the administration. “If he plans to stop the abductions, who orchestrated them? Do you truly trust what these individuals (the government) are saying? They will claim anything. They are no longer credible,” he pointed out.

Gachagua elaborated on his disclosure regarding the building, explaining why he maintained confidentiality about its precise location and identity.

“I refrained from identifying the building because there are individuals conducting business there, and revealing its name would jeopardize both the building and its occupants. I am allowing the government time to dismantle the unit operating on the 21st floor of that structure,” he remarked.

Gachagua also criticized his former boss for not acting on his statements, asserting that despite Ruto’s announcement, the abducted individuals remained unaccounted for.

“However, it has been nearly 64 hours since the President spoke, and the individuals have not been released. We hope these individuals can celebrate the New Year with their families. Please order their release from wherever they are,” he demanded.
