Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi now wants Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna to close ranks with Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka and form a “formidable opposition”.
“Edwin Sifuna, as a lawyer of high repute, feel free to enjoy your constitutional right and team up with Kalonzo Musyoka to form a formidable opposition,” Sudi, a close ally of President William Ruto, says.
The lawmaker’s sentiments comes against the backdrop of a growing rift within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party ranks, after President Ruto nominated five of its officials to the Cabinet.
President Ruto, on Wednesday, July 25, nominated ODM Deputy Leaders Hassan Joho and Wycliffe Oparanya, ODM Chairperson John Mbadi as well as Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi to his new ‘broad-based’ Cabinet.
SIFUNA: ODM NOT IN GOV’T
Kenyans, and rightfully so, say that the opposition party has joined the government, ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna insists otherwise.
Sifuna says that the four have joined government in their own individual capacity, and do not have the blessings of the ODM Party.
“CS nominees John Mbadi, Opiyo Wandayi, Wycliffe Oparanya and Hassan Joho do not have the blessings of ODM Party. They have joined Government in their individual capacity, and we don’t begrudge them, I wish them well,” Sifuna said on Thursday, July 25 morning.
The senator also insists that for ODM to join government, there has to be a binding document just like the Kenya Kwanza affiliate parties signed pre-election, which is not the case.
“The President has a prerogative to nominate any person to his Cabinet. John Mbadi, Wycliffe Oparanya, Hassan Joho and Opiyo Wandayi have been tapped by President William Ruto and they have accepted. But for you to say ODM has joined Gov’t is an open lie.”
