Juja MP George Koimburi was reportedly arrested by police on Tuesday as part of an investigation into his allegations.
He was taken into custody outside his home on Kenyatta Road in Juja and brought to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters for questioning shortly after leaving his residence.
This arrest followed his viral claim that the government allegedly spent around Sh13 billion on campaigning for Raila Odinga in the African Union Commission (AUC) elections.
Before his arrest, Koimburi mentioned the presence of two Subaru vehicles parked outside his home.
A known critic of the government, Koimburi’s remarks concerning the purported campaign costs heightened political discussions.
The Charge and Cautionary statement referenced his comments made on February 16, 2025, at PCEA Juja Farm parish, Judea Presbetary, stating that his claims were “knowingly false and calculated to advocate unrest that would constitute incitement to the government of Kenya. ”

A group of leaders and supporters accompanied him to the DCI headquarters.
His lawyer, Ndegwa Njiru, defended him, arguing that there was no issue with questioning the government’s expenditure regarding the AUC chairperson election.
“I am at the DCI HQ representing Hon. Koimburi who has been arrested for stating the obvious that Sh13 billion was spent on Raila’s AUC chair mission…. What’s wrong with calling him to account? Is it that the truth hurts? ” he tweeted.
