The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has made a significant arrest. The arrest involves a senior official from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) in Kenya.
Caroline Sabiri Manyange has served as the Manager for Boundaries Delimitation since April 4, 2012. She was apprehended for allegedly using forged academic certificates to secure her position.
EACC Spokesperson Eric Ngumbi confirmed that Manyange was arrested at her residence in Nairobi West on Monday. After her arrest, she was taken to the EACC Integrity Centre Police Station, where she is now being detained.
The investigation revealed that Manyange’s fraudulent actions resulted in her receiving a cumulative salary and benefits totaling over Ksh. 37 million, which the EACC describes as a fraudulent acquisition of public property.
The arrest followed the approval from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). They charged Manyange with multiple offenses. These offenses include forgery.
It is contrary to section 345 as read with section 349 of the Penal Code. Additionally, he is charged with uttering a false document, which is contrary to section 353 of the Penal Code.
The EACC has announced plans to start civil proceedings in court. They intend to recover the Ksh. 37 million that Manyange has accrued over the years due to her fraudulent employment. This is besides the criminal charges.
Caroline Sabiri Manyange is scheduled to be arraigned before the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court later today. This event marks a significant step in the ongoing efforts to combat corruption within public institutions in Kenya.
