Gachagua, addressing an audience on Sunday in Naivasha, asserted that chiefs in the Mt. Kenya area have been directed not to combat illicit alcohol and to permit residents to perish, intending to lessen their numbers ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Although the government has denied this assertion, Mt. Kenya leaders aligned with Gachagua have endorsed his statement, challenging the government to clarify how 56 companies, formerly prohibited from producing harmful alcohol, were permitted to operate.

The MPs, spearheaded by Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba, also requested the government to disclose the identities of those who evaluated the companies prior to their licensing.

“Disclose the names of the 15 companies that have been checked and authorized to sell this 2nd generation alcohol; their locations; the product brands and approved packaging sold to consumers; and the distribution points for their products,” the MPs remarked in their statement.

In response to the government asking Gachagua for proof regarding his statements on the resurgence of illicit brewing, the leaders indicated that a trip to shopping centers in the area would be sufficient.

Additionally, Gachagua’s allies accused President William Ruto’s administration of undermining the efforts made by the former DP to eliminate illicit brewing in the politically significant region.
