1 Killed, 30 Injured In Kajiado Train Crash.

One person has been confirmed dead and 30 others injured after a commuter train was involved in an accident.

The accident happened on Tuesday, July 9 after the commuter train derailed and fell off a bridge at Duka Moja in Kajiado County trapping several passengers.

The train was heading from Magadi town to Kajiado town when the accident happened.

Emergency response teams were been deployed to the accident scene to help evacuate the train passengers.

“A passenger train has derailed in Kajiado near Tata Chemicals – Kajiado Plant. Casualties reported. Emergency response teams currently heading to the scene. More details to follow,” St John Ambulance announced.

Kajiado Deputy Governor Martin Moshisho also confirmed the accident saying the train was ferrying over 100 passengers.

Moshisho noted that passengers who suffered injuries were rushed to the Kajiado Referral Hospital for medical attention.

“A passenger train ferrying more than 100 people from Magadi to Kajaido Town lost control and fell off the bridge at Duka Moja, Loodokilani Ward. Many of the passengers suffered injuries, 66 were treated with minor injuries at our County Referral Hospital,” Moshisho stated.

The Kajiado Deputy Governor noted that 10 passengers are in critical condition and have been rushed to Nairobi Hospital for further treatment.

The body of the deceased passenger was moved to the Kajiado Referral Hospital morgue.
