Architectural Vision Unveiled: New Design Plans for Raila Odinga Mausoleum in Bondo

A bold new vision for the proposed Raila Odinga Mausoleum has been unveiled, signaling a major step toward creating a permanent national monument in honor of the late veteran politician. Architectural concepts presented this week reveal a sophisticated design intended to transform the Kang’o ka Jaramogi homestead in Bondo, Siaya County, into a world-class center for history and reflection.

During a high-level design review meeting attended by Raila Odinga Jr., government officials, and technical experts from the National Museums of Kenya and the Ministry of Works, stakeholders viewed conceptual plans that feature a striking circular core as the centerpiece of the memorial precinct. This central structure is envisioned as a symbolic heart of the site, serving as the anchor for an expansive civic landscape.

The design plan emphasizes a fluid visitor experience, replacing rigid geometry with sweeping, curved pathways and access roads that loop through lush, landscaped grounds. According to project planners, the site is intended to be more than just a burial location; it is being developed as a contemplative space that reframes the legacy of the late former Prime Minister within the broader historical narrative of his father, the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.

“This engagement is a significant step in preserving history, honoring legacy, and creating a lasting monument for future generations,” stated Raila Odinga Jr. following the review.

The mausoleum project is a direct response to the national significance of the late leader, who was laid to rest at the family’s ancestral home in Bondo in October 2025. The current initiative involves close collaboration between the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage and national heritage institutions to ensure the architectural execution matches the political and cultural weight of the Odinga dynasty.
