Tragic Standoff: 25-Year-Old Shot Dead After Attacking Family with Machete in Siaya

A 25-year-old man was shot and killed during a standoff at his home in Ujwanga village, Ugenya, Siaya County.

The incident unfolded on Wednesday night when the man reportedly became violent, forcing his parents and siblings out of their home while wielding a machete.

Police responded swiftly to the scene and found him sitting on a sofa. However, when he noticed their arrival, he stood up and approached them with the machete in hand. In response to the threat, an officer shot and fatally wounded him.

The man was rushed to Ambira Sub County Hospital but was declared dead upon arrival. Authorities recovered the machete and two spent cartridges from the scene as part of their investigation.

Meanwhile, in Rachuonyo, Homa Bay County, police are probing the murder of 43-year-old Joseph Othim Amora, whose body was discovered in Kolondo village. His abdomen was severely slashed, exposing his intestines.

Initial reports suggest he was attacked by intruders who broke into his home on Wednesday night, though the motive for the murder remains unknown.

Amora’s body has been transported to the mortuary for a postmortem examination, and investigators are actively working to apprehend those responsible. Authorities are concerned about the rise in violent crime in the area, with several murder cases still under investigation.
