Tragedy on Embu Highway: Speeding Miraa Probox Kills School Pupil, Sparks Massive Protests!

A young child lost their life, and another was left critically injured after a high-speed vehicle transporting miraa plowed into them outside PCEA Gateway School in Embu, along the Embu-Mwea-Nairobi Highway.

The tragic incident occurred on the evening of Friday, March 14, as teachers assisted pupils in safely crossing the busy road. Witnesses say the teacher on duty raised a stop sign to alert motorists, and all vehicles obeyed—except for a reckless Toyota Probox driver who ignored the warning.

“Teachers were ensuring the children crossed safely, and they always use signs to signal vehicles to stop. While all other cars complied, the Probox driver refused to slow down and struck two children,” recounted Veronica Wambui, an eyewitness.

Tragically, one PP1 pupil died instantly, while the other was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

The driver fled the scene after the horrific crash, sparking outrage among locals, who took to the highway in protest against miraa transporters’ reckless driving.

“Every other driver stopped, but this Probox driver sped up and hit five children. We are blocking this road until the authorities take action,” declared an enraged resident, James Muthii.
