Shockwaves Across Kenyan Politics as Sifuna’s ODM Future Hangs by a Thread

A major political shift has occurred in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) because internal critics led by Robert Alai have launched a severe attack against ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna. The current party tensions require immediate resolution because Sifuna will face expulsion from his position within months if they remain unaddressed.

Alai operates as a contentious personality who actively opposes people within his own party. Alai has started a new phase of his internal party battle, which has questioned Sifuna’s control for several months.

Alai announced to the public that an ODM faction believes Sifuna will not survive three more months without essential support from the party’s executive team, which made news articles about him and caused political disturbances throughout Nairobi.

The existing conflict arises from ODM members who argue about the party’s future direction since Raila Odinga stopped participating in active politics. Sifuna has emerged as a central figure in strategic party discussions who faces conflicts with key party officials about various matters, from discipline to public communication and coalition plans for the upcoming 2027 election.

Alai and his fellow critics have made their disputes with Sifuna public, claiming that Sifuna has damaged party cohesion while providing advantages to ODM’s rivals.

Sifuna plans to bring his internal dispute to court, according to Alai’s latest public statement. Sifuna plans to use legal methods to protect his position because he intends to fight against calls for his resignation.

Political experts believe the situation developed quickly because the two factions inside Africa’s oldest opposition party use political violence to fight their battle between those who want to work with the government and those who want to maintain strict opposition principles.
