Senator Thang’wa Reveals Why Gachagua Donated KSh.1M to Church

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua recently contributed Ksh1 million to a church amidst ongoing debates regarding political donations to religious organizations.

However, Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thangwa stated that there is a legitimate rationale behind Gachagua’s donation, which occurred during a period of heightened scrutiny of politicians regarding their financial contributions to churches.

Speaking at the ACK St. At James Cathedral in Kiambu, Thang’wa clarified that Gachagua had pledged support to the church prior to the discussions regarding political donations to churches.

The Senator noted that the Ksh1 million donation from Gachagua was made in good faith and would aid the ongoing construction efforts.

“We have had to be cautious after witnessing some individuals return cash donations to the church,” the Senator explained. “The church communicated with the president and his team, but the former deputy president was not involved. ”

He (Gachagua) was here earlier and stated that he owed you money for paint. He provided me with Ksh1 million, which I have maintained since October 27. He has fulfilled the promise he made long ago.

The recent action by Gachagua occurred just days after the Soweto Catholic Church was instructed to return donations made by President William Ruto and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.

In declining the President’s monetary gift, Metropolitan Archbishop Most Rev. Philip Anyolo stated that the donations contravened the Public Fundraising Appeals Bill.

The Archbishop further advised politicians against leveraging the church for political gain.
