President William Ruto is making significant progress. He is fulfilling his promise to give free gas cylinders to low-income households in Kenya.
The National Oil Corporation of Kenya (NOCK) has announced plans to distribute 8.5 million Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders as part of this initiative. This effort aims to improve access to affordable energy for those in need across the country.
During the launch of the Makueni Energy Plan 2023-2032, NOCK’s CEO, Gideon Leparan Ole Morintat, spoke. He discussed the collaboration with the Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC). He also mentioned the Department of Petroleum and Saudi Aramco.
This partnership is designed to enhance the production, packaging, and distribution of LPG. It ensures that the cylinders are made available to low-income households at a subsidized price of Ksh2,000.
Morintat also mentioned that the initiative will involve local officers from the Energy Department. Energy champions will also be involved to find beneficiaries effectively. This grassroots approach aims to guarantee that the support reaches those who need it most.
It thereby promotes energy accessibility and sustainability in the community.
Additionally, NOCK is working with the National Construction Authority (NCA) to improve the LPG reticulation process. This improvement will help the safe and efficient installation of LPG appliances in homes.
The recent launch of a new construction code of conduct is expected to streamline the approval of building plans. It ensures that the installation of LPG systems is both safe and efficient for residential use.
