Prime CS Mudavadi Reveals Plans For ANC Merger With UDA.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has intimated that his Amani National Congress (ANC) party is holding talks with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party for a merger.

Speaking to the press on Saturday, June 1, in Kakamega, Mudavadi noted that political mergers were allowed under the Political Parties Act.

“We are having merger talks. The Political Parties Act allows political mergers. I don’t see if there is a mistake in having a political merger because ANC was among the founding parties of Kenya Kwanza,” Mudavadi remarked.

According to the Prime CS, the party was looking to the future, maintaining that many people had doubts when ANC party joined the Kenya Kwanza coalition but they later formed the government.

“I want to tell my people that many thought when we brought the ‘earthquake’ we were lost, but we formed the government. When I tell people that ANC party is having merger talks, don’t think it is a small matter. We are looking ahead,” Mudavadi stated.

He asserted that mergers are not something new in the political space because Azimio and Kenya Kwanza were formed after political parties merged.

“Azimio and Kenya Kwanza are a coalition of parties, and in those parties, we can have talks for them to merge,” Mudavadi added.

The Prime CS’s remarks come at a time when the ruling UDA party has been experiencing internal wrangles.

A section of leaders allied to President William Ruto and those allied to his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, have been at loggerheads over politics in the Mt Kenya region among other issues.
