Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has called for the resignation and arrest of Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, accusing him of orchestrating a violent attack against him in Kisumu.
In a press briefing, Osotsi recounted how a routine visit to the lakeside city turned violent after he was confronted and assaulted by a group of youths.
The Senator said he had travelled to Kisumu during the parliamentary recess and was going about his normal schedule, including a visit to a barbershop and a planned meeting with a local football official, when the incident occurred.
He recalled that while seated at a café, a group of between 15 and 20 young men approached him. Initially, he did not sense any danger as some greeted him.
However, the situation quickly escalated.
“They started hitting me while questioning why I support the one-term slogan,” Osotsi said, adding that he was overwhelmed and lost consciousness during the attack.
According to the legislator, the assailants continued beating him even after he fell to the ground, leaving him with serious injuries.
He said his security team intervened after hearing the commotion, at which point one of the attackers allegedly attempted to draw a firearm.
“My security responded and that is when they fled. I was then evacuated,” he remarked.
Osotsi pointed out that he escaped through a back exit before being rushed to Aga Khan Hospital for medical assistance.
He described his injuries as severe, including a swollen face, a paralysed hand, and a knee injury.
The Senator accused PS Omollo of being directly responsible, claiming he possessed evidence that he had been under surveillance prior to the incident.
“People were used to monitor me and share my location. This was not random,” Osotsi said.
He further alleged that individuals linked to the attack followed him to the hospital, raising concerns about his safety even after the incident.
Osotsi also questioned how information about the attack spread quickly on social media, alleging the involvement of state-backed bloggers before his own team had issued any communication.
He linked the attack to ongoing political tensions and warned against attempts to incite ethnic divisions.
“Why must I be attacked in Kisumu? They wanted to create the impression that communities are at war,” he said.
The Senator, who is affiliated with the Linda Mwananchi faction, vowed that he would not be intimidated and called for accountability.
“Raymond Omollo must resign and be arrested. If this does not happen, we will take the next course of action,” he said.
Osotsi’s remarks come hours after PS Omollo warned leaders against using goons to fuel violence. The PS noted that the government would take decisive action against those involved.
“Criminal gangs and political goonism are a national challenge and will not be tolerated. Any individual or leader who engages in or facilitates such acts will be held accountable in accordance with the law,” he stated in Turkana on April 10, 2026.
