Kapseret MP Oscar Kipchumba Sudi, a staunch ally of President Ruto, has delivered a startling warning to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, declaring him the next target in the state’s pushback against the unrest sparked by June 25 protests.
In a fiery address in Meru on Saturday, Sudi accused Gachagua of financing and inciting violence during the Gen Z-led demonstrations that rocked the country at the end of June. Two Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) youth leaders were already arrested over the unrest—alleged collaborators of Gachagua—and Sudi says the former Deputy President is now “in line” to be arrested as well.
“After apprehending all of them, we will come for you … you were the financier,” Sudi declared, rejecting claims the arrests were politically motivated. “You cannot finance destructive politics and then expect to escape scrutiny.”
The crackdown has already netted nearly 500 suspects, including those accused of stealing police firearms and destroying public property, according to DCI Director Amin Mohamed. While Gachagua has not yet been summoned, the DCI has made clear that “no one enjoys immunity”—reinforcing Sudi’s warning.
Political Earthquake

Sudi’s blunt threat has intensified the ongoing political drama. Gachagua—who has accused President Ruto and certain governors of orchestrating the arrests of Mt. Kenya protesters—now faces accusations that directly challenge his integrity and positioning within the ruling ecosystem.
For his part, the former DP has dismissed the rumors as strategic misdirection and vowed any legal action taken against him would only strengthen his resolve and position, especially among his Mt. Kenya base.
What’s at Stake
- Legal Reckoning: If Gachagua is formally arrested and tried, it could set a landmark precedent for former top officials facing prosecution over political unrest.
- Coalition Strain: The confrontation underscores deepening divisions within the ruling coalition, raising questions about loyalty—and retribution—as the 2027 elections approach.
- Public Reaction: Supporters of Gachagua have already begun framing any arrest efforts as politically stoked. A crackdown on a former Vice President may spark flashpoints around Mt. Kenya and youth-led movements.
Watch Points Ahead
- DCI Moves: Will Gachagua receive a summons or be arrested this week?
- Judicial Actions: Will a trial follow, and on what charges?
- Political Fallout: How will other MPs and the public interpret this escalation—justice or weaponized politics?
Kenya is entering a dangerous new phase where politics and prosecution collide. Oscar Sudi’s declaration has put Rigathi Gachagua in clear crosshairs—and the country is watching to see if the law will follow.
