Nyeri County Governor Mutahi Kahiga has called on President William Ruto to allow Mt. Kenya residents time to recover from the recent impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Kahiga, a strong supporter of Gachagua, emphasized that the region requires more time to heal from the emotional impact of Gachagua’s removal from office. He expressed to Ruto that it is premature to send politicians to regain support in the area.
“When they ousted our son (Gachagua) from the government, there was celebration, but we felt deep devastation. We were in significant pain, and now is not the appropriate time for emissaries to attempt to win us back. After this loss, we have become disoriented, and they should allow us time to heal. Please let us be,” Kahiga stated.
The most recent effort to reconnect with the Mt. Kenya region was marked by the surprising arrival of former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga in Nyeri on New Year’s Eve, where he addressed a crowd of youth urging them to support President William Ruto.
