A cloud of mystery has descended upon Nyamira town following the discovery of a senior National Intelligence Service (NIS) officer dead within his official residence. The deceased, identified as 56-year-old David Kipkoech Kosgey, who served as the Head of County Intelligence Coordination, was found unresponsive at his home on Friday, June 5, 2026.
The grim discovery was made by his subordinates after concerns were raised regarding his sudden disappearance. According to Nyamira County Commissioner Benson Leparimorijo, the officer was scheduled to travel to Nairobi for official duties on Friday morning. When he failed to appear and could not be reached, his colleagues proceeded to his residence—located adjacent to the County Commissioner’s office—to check on his welfare. Upon finding the doors locked from the inside, they were forced to break their way in, only to find the veteran intelligence officer lifeless.
Preliminary reports from the scene have added a layer of unease to the tragedy. Officials confirmed that there were visible signs of a struggle within the residence, and the deceased was found having vomited significant amounts of blood. Despite these disturbing indicators, authorities noted that there were no immediate visible physical injuries on the body.
The house has since been cordoned off as a high-stakes crime scene, with specialized detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arriving to process the area and gather forensic evidence. Commissioner Leparimorijo confirmed that a formal investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances leading to the officer’s sudden demise.
The body of the late Kosgey has been moved to the Nyamira County Referral Hospital mortuary, where a postmortem examination is expected to be conducted to establish the exact cause of death. As the investigation continues, the intelligence community and local residents remain in a state of shock, awaiting further information from authorities. The death of such a high-ranking security official has prompted intense public interest, with many calling for a swift and transparent probe into whether foul play was involved.
