Man arrested after girlfriend’s death in Kiugoine,Nakuru

A man has been arrested after allegedly killing his girlfriend in Kiugoine, Nakuru county.

Police said the man used a panga to slit the woman’s throat before presenting himself at a local police station, where he was arrested.

Police produced the suspect in court under a miscellaneous application over the alleged murder of his girlfriend, Mary Njoki Mburu, and were granted 14 days to complete investigations.

The motive of the incident, which occurred on April 13, was not immediately known.

Police said investigations are ongoing and will include an assessment of his mental status.

In a separate incident, a wanted murder suspect surrendered at Ngangaru Police Station in Transmara, Narok County, saying he feared being lynched.

Police said the suspect was wanted by officers in Nyamaiya, Kisii County, over the alleged murder of Jackline Nyanchama, 35, on April 12.

The woman was an in-law to the suspect. Police said he was transferred to Nyamaiya for further processing and possible arraignment.

In Mbita, Homa Bay county, an arson suspect also surrendered to authorities following an incident in which a house was burnt down. Police said the suspect will face arson charges.

Another suspect surrendered to police over a murder incident reported in Kipsitet, Kericho county.

Meanwhile, police are pursuing a bodaboda rider and two other men linked to a robbery along Riverside Drive in Nairobi, in which a pillion passenger was seriously injured.

The victim told police he had taken a ride home when the rider stopped at the scene.

Two men armed with a panga emerged from a bush and slashed him in the head before stealing his bag and other valuables.

Police said the attackers fled on a motorcycle, leaving the victim with serious injuries.

Detectives were pursuing the suspects on Tuesday following the Monday night incident.

Police said such incidents have been on the rise, even as efforts are stepped up to address the problem.

They said operations have been intensified to curb gangs using motorcycles to rob residents.

As part of the response, some officers in parts of Parklands have been assigned motorcycles for patrols, including undercover operations.

Nairobi police boss Issa Mohamud said most gangs linked to the crimes have been profiled.

“We know where they originate, and teams are pursuing them,” he said.
