Makokha’s exit deepens uncertainty at Soy United amid internal turmoil

Soy United’s technical bench has been rocked by fresh changes after assistant coach Owen Makokha parted ways with the National Super League side following a brief five-month stint with the Blue Eagles.

Makokha, who was appointed in January 2026, had returned for his second spell at the club with the aim of strengthening head coach Jeffers Odongo’s backroom staff.

His arrival came with expectations, especially given his CAF B coaching credentials and experience, as he stepped in to replace Samuel Twago early in the year.

However, his tenure has now ended abruptly, with reports pointing to underlying tensions within the technical bench.

Sources close to the club indicate that a “cold war” had developed behind the scenes, with Makokha allegedly sidelined from certain team activities in recent weeks — a situation that ultimately led to his exit.

The departure adds another layer of instability to a Soy United side that has struggled for consistency throughout the 2025/26 National Super League campaign.

As of mid-April, the team sits in the mid-table region, placed on 11th place with just under 40 points.

On the pitch, results have been mixed. While the team managed notable wins against Mwatate United and Gucha Stars, they also endured frustrating defeats to Naivas FC and Kibera Black Stars, reflecting an inconsistent run that has stalled their push up the standings.

Makokha’s exit now leaves head coach Odongo with the task of reorganizing his technical bench at a critical stage of the season.

With several matches still to play, the focus will shift to whether Soy United can steady the ship and finish strongly despite the off-field disruptions.
