Kisumu: A GSU officer who was attempting to save his colleagues was fatally stabbed to death.

A General Service Unit (GSU) officer was stabbed to death during a confrontation with locals on Monday August 12, 2024 in the Manyatta slums of Kisumu.

Constable Calvince Ouma Omondi, 24, was allegedly attacked during a confrontation with individuals he knew.

He sustained fatal injuries after being stabbed to the chest and neck.

At the time of his death, Omondi was on leave from his post at the Turkwel GSU camp in Turkana County.

What led to the GSU’s death?

The incident happened in Kolwa, Kisumu East Sub County, when Omondi was visiting friends in Manyatta and was in a vehicle escorting a female friend to her home.

According to the police report, the vehicle that Omondi and his friends were using had stopped so one of the friends could answer a call of nature. Unknown assailants then seized the moment to assault Omondi.

How was the GSU officer attacked?

He attempted to defend his friend but was stabbed once in the chest, resulting in a severe wound that caused him to bleed to death.

He also suffered a neck wound.

Another man was critically injured during the incident and is now hospitalized in stable condition, according to the police.

No suspect has been arrested in connection to the incident but police are still investigating the matter.

The victim’s body was moved to the mortuary for an autopsy.

A similar violent event happened the previous day, where a police officer was killed at a bar’s parking lot in the Embakasi area of Kisumu.

Meanwhile, detectives are searching the neighborhoods in the city for a group of four individuals believed to be responsible for the death of Constable Nicholas Koech.

His body was discovered in a pool of blood in the morning of August 10, after he was fatally stabbed in the stomach and chest.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, but police are following up on critical leads.

Constable Koech, who was part of a group leaving a Kalenjin Night event at the bar, was attacked when a disturbance erupted in the parking lot.
