Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba signed a Memorandum of Understanding as part of a broader bilateral agreement framework during the inaugural Kenya–Morocco Joint Commission for Cooperation (JCC) held in Nairobi.

The higher education agreement outlines cooperation in areas including scholarships, internships, academic exchange and joint research between Kenyan and Moroccan institutions.

“The Memorandum of Understanding provides a renewed framework for cooperation in key areas of human capital development, such as the provision of scholarships, knowledge exchange and joint research,” Ogamba said.

“We are confident that Moroccan-Kenyan relations will witness significant progress in the coming years, anchored on mutual respect, shared priorities, and a common vision for sustainable development,” he said.

He added that the partnership is guided by broader principles of cooperation between African states.

“Let us continue to harness the immense potential of our nations, guided by the principles of South–South cooperation, solidarity, and Afro-optimism,” Bourita said.

Officials from both countries discussed the intention to fast-track the implementation of the signed agreements.

The education agreement is part of wider efforts to strengthen cooperation between Kenya and Morocco across multiple sectors.

The Joint Commission also saw the signing of 11 bilateral instruments covering sectors including agriculture, health, justice, fisheries, gender, culture, sports, wildlife and diplomatic cooperation.

The development comes as Kenya continues to expand international partnerships in education and training, including a recent agreement with Italy under which 70 Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions are set for modernisation with new equipment.
