Junet Mohammed Slams Political Tensions, Calls for Focus on 2027 Elections!

National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohammed has called on political leaders and Kenyans to tone down political rhetoric and focus on awaiting the 2027 general elections.

Mohammed highlighted that Kenya is a constitutional democracy with elections held every five years.

“In a democracy, every individual has the right to vote for their preferred candidates. During the last election, our side fielded a candidate, as did the Majority side,” he said.

He expressed concerns about some politicians seeking to remove their elected leaders prematurely.

“One year after the elections, some people who knowingly voted for a five-year term are now approaching me to help remove the person they elected. I cannot assist with that; we must wait for the next election,” he stated firmly.

He added humorously, “Some come to me with strange stories, mentioning Zakayo the Tax Collector and Kasongo. I say, let’s wait until 2027.”

Mohammed urged patience even among supporters of the Majority, emphasizing that political transitions must follow constitutional timelines.

“If you backed this government but have become disillusioned, others remain steadfast. We are not ready to act on such matters prematurely. Look elsewhere for assistance,” he added.

The Minority Leader also assured that his side would continue fulfilling its mandate in the National Assembly.

“As the Minority, we are clear on our role to advocate for the people’s interests through constitutional means,” he said.

He made these remarks during the burial of Mama Anne Nanyama, mother of National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, in Bungoma.

Mama Nanyama, born on March 9, 1930, in Sirare Village, belonged to the Babuya clan and passed away on December 20 after a prolonged illness.

The event was attended by dignitaries including President William Ruto, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, and several MPs and senators.
