Grief in Seme as MP Nyikal Loses Father Eliud


Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o has sent a heartfelt message of condolence following the death of Mzee Eliud Nyikal Okaka, father to Seme MP James Nyikal.

‎In a statement issued by the Office of the Governor, Nyong’o described the late Mzee Okaka as a respected elder whose life was dedicated to community service and the advancement of education among young people.

‎“I have learnt with profound sorrow and a deep sense of loss, the news of the passing of Mzee Eliud Nyikal Okaka,” the governor said.

‎”Mzee Nyikal Okaka was a distinguished elder whose life was marked by unwavering commitment to the advancement of his community and the promotion of education among the youth.”

‎The governor noted that the late patriarch’s legacy lives on through his family, particularly in the leadership and public service demonstrated by his son, Nyikal.

‎“His legacy is reflected not only in his personal contributions to society, but also in the values of service, integrity, and leadership he instilled in his family, most notably in Nyikal MP, whose dedication to public service stands as a testament to his father’s guidance and nurturing,” he added.

‎Nyong’o, alongside Mama Kisumu Dorothy Nyong’o, extended sympathies to the bereaved family and residents of Seme Sub-County, urging them to remain strong during the period of mourning.

‎“On behalf of the County Government of Kisumu and on my own behalf together with Mama Kisumu, I extend my heartfelt condolences to Hon James Nyikal, the entire Nyikal family, and the people of Seme Sub-County at large during this difficult time,” he said.

‎He further called on the family to draw comfort from the impactful life the late elder lived.

‎“We take solace in the impactful life Mzee Nyikal lived and the enduring imprint he leaves on our society. May the Almighty God grant comfort and strength to the bereaved family, and may He receive the soul of Mzee Nyikal Okaka into eternal peace,” Nyong’o stated.

‎Leaders from across the region are expected to continue sending messages of condolence as preparations for the burial get underway.
