Gospel Star Reuben Kigame Declares Bold 2027 Presidential Bid, Vows Return to State House Arena.

Gospel musician and civil rights advocate Reuben Kigame has dropped a political bombshell—announcing he will run for the presidency in 2027, with a determined mission to unseat President William Ruto.

Speaking on NTV’s Fixing the Nation anchor program on Monday morning, Kigame stated without equivocation: “I’m not hoping, I’m planning to be on the ballot in 2027. I’m just getting ready to launch officially in a couple of weeks. It’s about two years to the election, so two years is good enough to roll it out”.

A Comeback After 2022 Disqualification

Kigame had previously attempted a presidential run in 2022, but was disqualified by the IEBC due to signature shortfalls. His removal from the ballot sparked public debate and allegations of administrative suppression. He now claims momentum is on his side, asserting that the next election is not a hope but a strategy he’s actively working to implement.

Character at the Core

In his remarks, Kigame placed strong emphasis on character-led leadership, insisting the nation should demand integrity not just at the top, but across all elected offices—MPs, governors, women representatives and MCAs.

“We need character-driven MCAs, Women Reps, MP, Governors… look at cases like Sonko in the papers today—dragging on how many years later,” he warned, urging civil society, religious groups, and media outlets to jointly develop performance scorecards for current and future administrations.

He also praised the youth for pushing accountability and transparency in public governance, urging Kenyan voters to base their decisions on the ability of leaders to deliver on their promises rather than superficial appeal.

Political Platform and Vision

While Kigame has yet to unveil a full manifesto, his advocacy and prior public engagements suggest a focus on values-based governance, social justice, and diaspora engagement. His early statements highlight his intent to hold leaders to strict character standards and encourage issue-based politics—moving away from ethnic or personality-driven campaigns.

Reactions and Stakes

As a high-profile figure known for his gospel music ministry and activism, Kigame’s move into politics positions him as a wildcard in the 2027 race. Analysts note that, while he faces considerable institutional and political hurdles, his moral appeal and diaspora connections could resonate beyond traditional party bases.

Some political observers caution that voter fatigue with mainstream figures may offer fertile ground for outsiders. Others question whether Kigame’s religious background will translate into broad electoral traction amid Kenya’s highly charged political environment.

What’s Next?

Kigame says an official campaign launch is imminent. His team is likely to outline a blueprint that merges civil rights, youth empowerment, and electoral reform. With two years to go until the 2027 general election, the question now facing Kenya is whether a gospel voice can raise enough political volume to challenge incumbency—and change the national leadership narrative.
