Gachagua Urges Gen Z to Continue With Social Media Activism

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has urged Gen Zs and Millennials to persist in challenging the government and ensuring it is held accountable.

While speaking in Kakamega on Sunday, Gachagua emphasized the importance of them continuing to highlight societal issues.

“Allow me to inform our young people, the Gen Zs and the Millennials, what you are undertaking on social media is commendable but insufficient,” he stated.

“These young individuals have demonstrated their patriotism and dedication to freeing our nation through the power of online platforms; I urge them to take the additional step of registering as voters. ”

Gachagua mentioned that the younger generation is the nation’s hope for achieving integrity, asserting that they will “resolve the political issues of this country once and for all. ”

He further noted that merely discussing matters on social media is inadequate; taking the next step to register as voters is essential for altering the country’s leadership.

He reiterated his request for youth to transition their activism on social media into tangible change through the ballot in 2027.

“While they are performing admirably on social media, on X and TikTok, that represents only a portion of the effort; the genuine task of liberating this country and ensuring good governance will occur in August 2027,” he remarked.

“And the youth, being the majority, carry a significant responsibility to rectify this country for themselves and for us, as they represent the future. ”

The youth have been leveraging X and TikTok to demand accountability from the nation’s leadership since prior to the June 2024 anti-government protests.

Their active engagement on social media compelled President William Ruto to convene a meeting on X to discuss the country’s future direction with the youth.

The Gen Z movement also resulted in a cabinet reshuffle, the postponement of the Finance Bill 2024, the establishment of an inclusive government, and a dialogue with former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
