On Sunday, November 3, 2024, just hours before the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams began in Tigania West, Meru County, two form four females gave birth to healthy babies.
Meanwhile, while receiving treatment at a hospital in Tigania West on Sunday night, a KCSE candidate was officially declared dead.
On Monday, November 4, 2024, Meru County Commissioner Jacob Ouma acknowledged the happenings.
The two candidates who gave birth on Sunday would be permitted to take the KCSE exams in the hospital, Ouma clarified.
Ouma stated that about 29148 students from 412 schools in Meru County had registered for this year’s KCSE exams while supervising the exam paper distribution to schools on Monday.
There are 13907 boys and 15241 girls among the 29148 hopefuls.
As they continue their incarceration, he noted, 12 male inmates will also take the national tests at the county’s jails.
The County Commissioner further stated that approximately 151 persons in Meru County will be taking the national examinations.
Compared to past years, this year’s KCSE exams will be administered differently since supervisors will be moving from school to school in an effort to reduce cheating.
