Thirdway Alliance party leader Ekuru Aukot has slammed former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for his recent criticism of President William Ruto after being impeached.
Speaking on Citizen TV’s Daybreak, Aukot accused Gachagua of being a “political mercenary” who, during his tenure, staunchly defended government policies only to switch sides after his removal from office.
Aukot argued that Gachagua’s sudden change of tone was driven by his impeachment and expulsion from the ruling party.
“While Gachagua and Muturi are speaking some truths, their timing is suspect. You cannot claim to be honest now when, while in office, you were following orders to mislead Kenyans,” Aukot stated.
“Yes, he is exposing corruption in the government, but he was an active participant in it.”
Aukot suggested that if Gachagua truly wants to regain public trust, he should start by admitting his past mistakes and apologizing.
“He should have first addressed Kenyans with an apology, thanking them for electing him and admitting, ‘We lied to you.’ But instead, this looks like nothing more than political posturing.”
Since his impeachment, Gachagua has become a vocal critic of Ruto’s administration, a shift that some see as happening remarkably fast.
He has openly attacked policies such as the Affordable Housing project and the Social Health Authority (SHA), dismissing them as schemes designed to benefit the wealthy.
Meanwhile, his political fate remains uncertain, as his legal challenge against impeachment is still pending in court.
