Drama in Makutano: Women Caught Shoplifting, Escape Mob Justice!

Three women accused of shoplifting at a supermarket in Makutano, West Pokot County, narrowly escaped mob justice after police intervened.
The suspects, allegedly from Webuye, Bungoma County, were caught attempting to steal goods from Talaymatt Supermarket. Their scheme, which involved one acting as a lookout while the others concealed items, was exposed when an employee spotted one of them hiding a 5kg container of cooking oil.

As security personnel intervened, one suspect managed to escape while the other two were detained and later taken to Kapenguria Police Station. Witnesses expressed shock, with some suggesting desperation might have driven them to steal food items.
Local resident Meshack Kakuko condemned the act, stating it was unusual for women to engage in such theft. Meanwhile, businesswoman Flomena Chemtai urged women to uphold their dignity and work honestly.

One of the suspects, Christine Mbone Musimbi, claimed they were traveling to a funeral and had no ill intentions.
West Pokot County Police Commandant Isah Mohammed confirmed investigations into the case are underway.
