President William Ruto appears to be gaining ground against Gen Z critics of his administration.
Youth who were reportedly abducted and later released by state agents pledged to reduce their social media presence following their ordeal.
In an interview, cartoonist Gideon Kibet, known as Kibet Bull, expressed his intent to scale back on online activities after his traumatic experience.
Kibet, a staunch critic of the government who was allegedly abducted on December 24 for his outspoken social media remarks, was released on Monday.
He shared concerns about his safety and that of his family.
“After what happened, I have to minimize my social media activity,” he stated.
However, he refrained from discussing the details of his captivity and the 12 days he spent in confinement.
“I cannot talk about it now,” he remarked.
He was released alongside five others who had also been kidnapped under unclear conditions.
In a post on his X account, Kibet indicated that he was dropped off in Luanda Vihiga County at dawn on Monday.
The release of the five coincided with planned protests by activists condemning abduction and enforced disappearances.
The incident has ignited widespread condemnation, with human rights organizations labeling it an assault on free speech.
