Cleophas Malala, Deputy Party Leader of the newly-formed Citizens Party (DCP), has declared the party’s number one mission — ousting President William Ruto from office.
Appearing on K24 TV last night, the former Kakamega Senator didn’t mince his words: “We cannot talk about any political agenda until Ruto is out. That’s the starting point.”
With emotions running high and speculation mounting, Malala stood firmly behind the party’s hardline stance, saying DCP is merely echoing the voice of the people. “Kenyans on the ground are clear — Ruto must go. That’s our message, and we will not apologize for it.”
“One Term and Out!”
Critics have blasted the DCP, led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing it of being a single-issue movement driven purely by opposition. But Malala hit back with a dramatic twist, claiming removing the current regime is not just the beginning — it’s the key to unlocking national transformation.
“Even if we had the best policies, how would we implement them under Ruto? The first step is leadership change. Period,” Malala stated with unwavering conviction.

He added that listening to the people is their guiding principle. “We are not here to push our own ideas. If Kenyans say one term for Ruto, that’s what we are saying. We don’t invent the ground – we report what the ground is saying.”
Eyes on June 4
In a revelation that’s stirring up even more curiosity, Malala announced that DCP will be officially launched on June 4, 2025 — a day he says will mark a turning point in Kenya’s political history.
“We will unveil our roadmap then. But don’t expect us to be bullied into shaping our message to fit other people’s narratives,” he fired back at those attempting to frame the party’s stance.
Shattering Tribal Stereotypes
In yet another bold claim, Malala rejected accusations that DCP is a tribal outfit. “Some are trying to label us a Wamunyoro project — that’s a lie. We are national. You cannot compare DCP with UDA.”
He also made a staggering announcement: since DCP’s soft launch on May 15, nearly 2.8 million Kenyans have ditched the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
“These are people who have simply lost faith in Ruto’s leadership. And once we go official, UDA will be a ghost party,” Malala declared.
Kenya Awaits
As June 4 looms, Kenya is watching closely. Will DCP emerge as a serious contender or collapse under the weight of its own ambition?
One thing’s for sure — Malala and the Citizens Party are not here to play it safe. And if their first move is anything to go by, they’re out to shake Kenya to its political core.
