Gachagua Assumes Opposition Leadership but Lacks Mt. Kenya Authority – Njenga

Gachagua Solidifies Opposition Role, but Not as Mt. Kenya Leader, Says Maina Njenga

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has succeeded former Prime Minister Raila Odinga as the leader of the Opposition, according to Maina Njenga, the former Mungiki Leader.

Njenga emphasized that Gachagua is well-suited for this role due to his strong communication skills and understanding of citizens’ issues, which enable him to effectively hold the government accountable. “Currently, Gachagua is in a good position that suits him.

He articulates well and criticizes the government effectively, making him the right fit for the opposition,” added Njenga. Nonetheless, he noted that Gachagua has not yet replaced former President Uhuru Kenyatta as the Mt. Kenya kingpin, despite his efforts to strengthen his political relevance in the region, particularly following his impeachment.

Gachagua has been actively engaging with leaders at his Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri as part of his political resurgence efforts.
