Moses Kuria Criticizes Embu Residents for Rejecting President Ruto’s Condolence Message
Moses Kuria, Economic Advisor to President William Ruto, admonished residents of Embu County for dismissing the Head of State’s condolence message on Friday.
This incident transpired during the burial of Lenny Kivuti’s son, the former Senator from Embu, in Kanyuambora, which was attended by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi, who was scheduled to read the President’s message, faced disruption and ultimately handed the message to Kivuti’s family without delivering it publicly.
In response to the situation, Kuria condemned the attendees for their refusal to acknowledge the President’s condolences. He emphasized that, according to Mt. Kenya cultural norms, a condolence message should not be declined, regardless of personal sentiments. “Messages are read publicly for the comfort of the bereaved family. This is why prayers are conducted publicly; otherwise, the clergy would simply pray in private with the family,” Kuria stated.
