Raila Ally Atandi Urges Ruto to Keep Adani Deals Despite Uproar

Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi, an ally of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, expressed his dissatisfaction following President William Ruto’s decision to cancel the Adani agreements due to corruption.

During a Parliament session yesterday, Atandi characterized Ruto’s move to annul the deal with the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO) as unwise.

The ODM MP argued that the agreement would have significantly contributed to addressing the issue of unstable electricity supply in the country, particularly in his constituency.

“In my region, we lack stable electricity; the transmission lines are non-operational, and with the Adani group ready to rectify this issue, there was no justification for the President’s cancellation, especially regarding electricity transmission. “

“The extent of the damage we endure as residents from the Lake region is substantial. ” The youth are unable to engage in activities such as welding due to the lack of electricity. “I disagree with the President on that matter,” he stated.

Additionally, the Legislator mentioned the Nairobi Expressway, which faced initial opposition from Kenyans but is now being utilized and appreciated. “When former President Uhuru Kenyatta constructed the Expressway, no tenders were issued, leading to some complaints; however, today, Kenyans are pleased with the Expressway and its widespread usage,” he stated.

President Ruto announced the cancellation of the Adani-JKIA expansion agreement and the Adani-KETRACO contract during his State of the Nation Address in Parliament.

He noted that these new directives were based on recent information concerning the integrity of the Indian company.
