Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua criticized Mt Kenya MPs who endorsed Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki as the region’s spokesman. He called them “traitors” and “foolish.” He expressed readiness to confront his political adversaries and emphasized the importance of unity in the region.
Gachagua highlighted a power struggle with lawmakers from the Mountain, led by National Assembly Leader of Majority Kimani Ichung’wah.
He accused top politicians in the ruling United Democratic Alliance and the opposition of fueling divisions in his backyard.
During an event in Nyeri, Gachagua compared his political adversaries to “hyenas.” He emphasized his determination to stand firm despite challenges. He led the crowd in singing a Mau Mau war song, emphasizing the importance of resilience and unity.
The endorsement of Prof Kindiki by some lawmakers as the Mt Kenya kingpin caused tension. Gachagua and his supporters felt rattled. The event saw the absence of many MPs from Mt Kenya, signaling a divide within the region’s political landscape.
