Edwin Sifuna speaking on citizen tv Expects resignations of the four ODM cabinet nominees from ODM party.

Edwin Sifuna, the secretary general of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), has demanded the resignation of party members appointed by President William Ruto to serve in his government.

Speaking on Thursday, Sifuna stated that the nominations of the four ODM-allied lawmakers do not reflect the party’s stance and that it has not been advised that they join Ruto’s administration.

Before proceeding with the vetting process in Parliament, the political firebrand contended that the MPs have to submit their letters of resignation.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna speaking to Citizen TV on July 25, 2024.

“I expect that before they go for screening I will get renunciation from their situations in the party. That is my assumption on the grounds that the law is that they can’t go into bureau as gatherings and individuals from ideological groups,” he expressed talking on Citizen TV’s Daybreak show.

“Yes, we were aware that people were negotiating with Ruto. No, it wasn’t something done officially by party structures. We did not support these four individuals’ decision to join the government.

It is not ODM’s decision.” Sifuna also said that the nomination of the four people was also rejected by the party leader Raila Odinga, who is said to have slept with the current government and helped form a coalition.

Sifuna went on to say that the nominations would be gender-equitable if Raila’s hand was in the rumored deal. “Even the president himself never claimed to have spoken with Raila.

He never said he counseled ODM he just said the names of individuals he has designated and it is his privilege as the president,” noted Sifuna.

“The Raila I know will not provide four names of all men if asked to name people who are capable of turning this country around and addressing the issues raised by Gen Z. In a party as diverse as ODM, Raila cannot present four names, two of which are from the same region.

President Ruto named ODM members John Mbadi, a nominated MP, to the Treasury ministry, Ugunja MP James Opiyo Wandayi to the Energy docket, former Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho (Mining and Blue Economy), and former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya (Cooperatives and MSMEs Development) during the announcement of the second batch of Cabinet nominees.

This came just 24 hours after Sifuna made it clear that ODM was not negotiating a coalition agreement or lobbying Ruto’s government for appointments.

According to reports, Ruto offered Mr. Despite opposition disagreements regarding cooperating with the government, rumors also suggested that Odinga would be given five Cabinet slots.

The reports arose following Odinga’s consent to a public multi-sectoral exchange discussion Ruto proposed to resolve issues Kenyans have brought up in the counter government fights since a month ago.

Last week, a few resistance Azimio la Umoja One Kenya alliance directors said they had no plans of joining the public authority, naming it for of treachery to the Kenyan public.
