In a formal notice issued by the party’s National Elections Board, DCP invited interested candidates to apply for the party ticket, setting strict timelines and financial requirements for aspirants seeking to contest under its banner.
“The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) National Elections Board hereby invites qualified and interested candidates to apply for the party ticket in the upcoming Ol Kalou Constituency by-election scheduled for 16th July 2026,” the notice read.
The party outlined nomination fees set at Sh250,000 for general applicants and Sh125,000 for youth and persons with disabilities, payable through designated accounts and paybill numbers. Application forms are available at the party headquarters, with candidates required to submit completed forms, supporting documents, and proof of payment.

“All interested aspirants must complete and submit the official application form, attach all required supporting documents, and provide proof of payment of the prescribed nomination fee,” the notice stated, adding that the deadline for submission is Saturday, May 2, 2026.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) declared the by-election after National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula declared the seat vacant on April 20, 2026.
This followed the death of Ol Kalou MP David Njuguna Kiaraho on March 29, 2026, triggering what is now expected to be a highly competitive race to fill the parliamentary seat.
In the notice, the Chairperson of the National Elections Board, Wanjiru Kago, emphasised the party’s commitment to transparency and discipline in selecting its candidate.
“We are calling on all qualified aspirants to step forward and present themselves for consideration. Our nomination process is guided by fairness, integrity, and strict adherence to party rules,” Kago said. “We expect a competitive but orderly exercise that will produce a strong candidate for Ol Kalou.”
Meanwhile, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has also confirmed plans to conduct its own nominations, setting the stage for a fierce contest in the constituency.
UDA Chairperson Cecily Mbarire announced that more than 10 aspirants have already expressed interest in the party ticket.
“We wish to announce that over 10 aspirants have expressed interest in running on the party’s ticket in the upcoming Ol Kalou constituency by-election.”
She assured party members that the nomination process would be free, fair, and transparent, with the party planning to communicate the official nomination date soon.
“We have agreed to have a free and fair party nomination at a later date that will be communicated,” she said, adding that UDA will field a candidate in the by-election.
