ODM leaders today joined mourners in Siaya County to bid farewell to Mzee Joel Gadi Ochieng Ong’wen, the elder brother of the party’s Executive Director, Oduor Ong’wen.

The funeral was held at the late elder’s farm in Udenda village, West Alego Ward, drawing political leaders, party officials, and local residents.
Among those who attended were ODM National Chairperson Gladys Wanga, Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa, Alego-Usonga Member of Parliament Samuel Atandi, and Rangwe MP Lillian Gogo, among others.
The leaders used the occasion to encourage party members and locals to remain committed to ODM as the country gears up for the upcoming election period.
In a statement on social media, the party said the leaders urged the community to stay united and remain steadfast within ODM.
“The leaders urged the locals to remain steadfast in the party and assured them that they would fight for a good deal when the pre-election coalition talks begin,” the statement said.
The statement concluded with a tribute to the deceased: “May Mzee Joel’s soul rest in peace.”
The leaders had during the day, also joined Kasipul MP Boyd Were Ong’ondo to launch the Kasipul Constituency NG-CDF Bursary Drive, distributing Sh58.5 million to students in day schools, as well as selected beneficiaries in boarding schools and colleges.
Wanga said the initiative aims to make education more affordable and accessible.
“Our mission is to make education affordable and accessible. My administration has also constructed 84 modern ECDE classrooms in the constituency, creating a better learning environment for our young children,” she highlighted.
