Political Firestorm as Jubilee MP Drags Gachagua to NCIC Over Explosive Mall Claims

A major political development that resonated through Nairobi’s power circles has taken place with Eldas MP Adan Keynan saying on Tuesday that the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) should look into the matter and take legal action against former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for what he calls mischievous and baseless allegations regarding a big Eastleigh mall.

Keynan’s statement, which was released on January 6, calls Gachagua a fool for asserting without any proof that the Eastleigh shopping mall was erected with the dirty money from the infamous Minnesota health fraud case.

The legislator from the Jubilee party claims that the geothermal-rich area and the then-ruling party’s untruthful words are inflammatory and untrue, and they have the potential to ignite ethnic wars.

In a very bluntly stated announcement, Keynan wanted the NCIC to designate Gachagua’s remarks as being akin to hate speech and inciting ethnic violence, saying they are of no public interest at all and are in fact working against national unity.

The MP also demanded that the previous DP must take back the charges without delay, make a public apology, and stop any further abusive language.

Keynan went into detail about the timing and the nature of Gachagua’s allegations, saying that the building of the mall was long before the supposed Minnesota fraud and was done using licensed private equity investments and monitored financial channels. The MP believes that Gachagua’s story is not only factually impossible but also intellectually dishonest.

The issue started when Gachagua directly accused the mall’s owners of being people who he claimed were in alliance with President William Ruto and then suggested that the U.S. should carry out a “Venezuela-style” operation to arrest the fraud suspect.
