President Yoweri Museveni Surfaces at High-Energy Rally — Dispels Hospitalisation Rumours Days Before Uganda Election.

Uganda’s long-time President was back in the spotlight today, dramatically silencing swirling rumours about his health with a bold public appearance that has set the political scene ablaze ahead of the January 2026 election.

At a packed rally in Adjumani’s Paridi Stadium on Monday, October 20, President Museveni stood before thousands of supporters, delivered his blistering campaign remarks and appeared to all in attendance to be in fine physical form — a marked contrast to the online speculation that had claimed he was hospitalised.

Appear and reclaim:
The 81-year-old leader arrived on the ground and walked unaided from his vehicle before mounting a specially designed platform from which he addressed the crowd. In his address, he paid tribute to multiple districts in the West Nile region — including Pakwach, Nebbi, Zombo, Obongi, Arua, Koboko, Yumbe and Moyo — and emphasised the continued leadership of his party, the National Resistance Movement (NRM).

“Continue supporting NRM, and we shall do even more,” he declared, in a show-of-strength moment meant to quiet the growing chatter about his health.

The swirling health controversy:
Just days earlier, a widely circulated claim alleged Museveni had been hospitalised in critical condition. The claim led to a surge of concern online and confusion among major cadres within his party. However, a fact-check by Ugandan media clarified that no formal government source had confirmed any health emergency or admission.

The timing of his absence from certain high-profile events — notably the state funeral of Kenyan leader Raila Odinga — had triggered the speculation, as he sent envoys instead of attending himself.

Why the timing matters:
With Uganda’s presidential election set for January 12, 2026, Museveni’s sudden rally reappearance is more than symbolic. It underlines his determination to dispel doubts about his capacity to run and govern another term. At the June NRM congress he was endorsed as the party’s flag-bearer, cementing his continuation in power.

The fact that he chose Adjumani — deep in the West Nile region, a key swing area — for this appearance is instructive. Analysts say the location, the energy of the rally, and the clear messaging are designed to project strength and reassure supporters and undecided voters alike.

Opposition vigilant:
Museveni is expected to face off against prominent opposition figures, notably musician-turned-politician Robert Kyagulanyi (“Bobi Wine”), among others. His return to the public eye amid the health scandal sets the tone for a combative campaign ahead.
