The National Police Service (NPS) has rejected any connection to the current abductions and kidnappings that have generated significant concern
In the past four days, at least five young men have gone missing under force, and their locations have been concealed by unknown captors.
These disappearances have ignited public outrage, which has associated the events with the police.
However, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja cleared his subordinates of the extrajudicial actions.
In a statement, Kanja highlighted the police’s dedication to maintaining the rule of law.
He stated that the police strictly follow the service’s established protocols, emphasizing how the criminal justice system functions, with abduction not being part of it.
The Police IG expressed regret that the public was incorrectly associating the police with the unlawful forced disappearances without any proof.
He affirmed that no Kenyan was unjustly held in any police station, reiterating that none of the law enforcement officers in the country are known to have participated in the abductions.
The IG warned the public against baseless accusations, stating it was damaging the service’s reputation.
“We urge the public to avoid disseminating false, fabricated, malicious, distasteful, misinformed, and unverified information that seeks to damage the National Police Service’s reputation and image,” said Kanja
